We are a group of 5 volunteers from the SwissALPA member associations. We attend meetings in Switzerland and abroad, within the IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilot Association) structure, in order to be an active member in the process of constant evolution of our working environment. We participate in working groups with aircraft manufacturers to bring our concerns directly to the ones that build the aircraft we fly on a daily basis. We are also represented through IFALPA in working groups at the JAA/EASA and FAA, were we try to improve our lifes on the regulatory side.

Our main field of action is the technical side. We actively participate in the seven technical committees of the Federation where we gather expertise from the other member associations and bring in our own expertise relevant to our type of operation.

The committees are :

  • Accident Analysis (AA)
  • Dangerous Goods (DG)
  • Aircraft Design and Operation (ADO)
  • Airport Ground Environment (AGE)
  • Air Traffic Services (ATS)
  • Human Performance (HUPER)

If in the future you’ll see one of this abbreviations you will now know what they stand for. On top of that, we also attend the Federations Industrial (IND) meetings, from were we gain experience for our member associations on that subject.
We basically try to anticipate and make our future look the way we dream it, and not to change a nightmare once it already happened. By participating to these meetings and influencing the decisions before they are even taken, we play a key role in the way new aircraft, laws, rules and working conditions will look in the future.

Chairman Air Safety Committee

Roesli_Steve Steve Rösli
SWISS SF/O A330/340

I joined the ASC in 1998 as a member of the ADO ressort (aircraft design and operation), which I took over as ressort leader in the spring of 2000, also becoming SwissALPA's delegate to IFALPA's ADO working group. Since January 2002, I am the chairman of the committee, but I am still active in the ADO ressort.

The ADO ressort's main subjects are:
  • making sure that the pilot's views are taken into account by the manufaturers, operators and authorities on issues such as: airplane equippment and operation.
  • informing our members on current topics that pertain to flight safety
